Hug a puppy day at Canterbury Christ Church University

Dog-loving students can pay a pound for five minutes of puppy hugs – to raise cash for a pet charity.

Canterbury Christ Church Students’ Union have organised the canine cuddle session at Augustine House on December 7.

Stressed out students can pay a pound for five minutes in the charity’s puppy room.

The event, which is being held between 10am – 12pm, will raise money for TAG Pet Rescue, a local charity which cares for and rehomes animals.

Golden Labradors called Anna, Abigail and Angus are three of the 10 dogs who will be making an appearance on the day.

There will also be a celebrity in the building… Trixie the Labrador who starred in BBC One’s Downton Abbey will be amongst the fun in Augustine Hall.

As Christ Church’s first ever ‘Hug a Puppy Day’, the event has already proved popular; therefore students can only get their paws on the puppies for one five minute cuddle session.

The puppies are being supplied by a local breeder who have been breeding puppies for 170 years.

As well as puppy cuddles being up for grabs, there will be a cake sale, games to play and there will also be a matting area where you can walk the dogs.

Sabbatical officer of education and welfare, Phil Semmens said: “If all goes well, the plan is to hold another at the Canterbury campus in May and maybe even Medway and Broadstairs.”
