Canterbury Varsity 2017: Netball 1s’ comeback just falls short in 37-41 defeat

Christ Church netball 1s lost by four points as UKC won the Canterbury Varsity 2017 match 37-41.

University of Kent women’s 1s dominated the opening minutes of the game taking a 1-8 lead after 10 minutes.

CCCU improved but struggled to get back into the game after a poor start.

Christ Church were struggling as the second quarter started.

Clinical shooting from UKC put increased their lead 14-28 by half-time.

CCCU’s half-time team talk worked wonders and they played some incredible attacking passes and ruthless shooting.

Captain Lucinda Rose was incredible in the third at goal keeper and denied UKC countless times.

CCCU’s pressure paid off as they reduced UKC’s lead from 14 to seven points as they headed into the final quarter.

As Christ Church came out for the last quarter the crowd were behind them.

CCCU carried on pressurising UKC and got to within four points of the visitors in the early stages of the final quarter.

UKC got their act together and produced the same clinical shooting that gave them a surging lead in the second and third quarter.

They took a seven point lead with seven minutes on the clock.

Christ Church as they rallied hard to get within four points of UKC.

The UKC win was their third of the day against C4 teams.

The action shifts back to UKC tomorrow with the men’s tennis 2s contests first followed by men’s football 4s, women’s hockey 2s, women’s tennis, men’s football 3s, men’s hockey 2s, men’s football 2s, women’s hockey 1s, men’s tennis 1s and men’s hockey 1s.
