Why should you join sports clubs and societies at CCCU?

University is about meeting new people and getting involved. The Student Union presidents believe joining sports clubs and societies is a great way to meet like minded people.  

CCCU has 60 societies ranging from Anime to Zouk, where you can meet people with similar interests to you.

If none of the societies or sports clubs appeal to you then everyone is welcome to make their own, as long as they meet the criteria.

Jordan Howard

Education and well-being president Jordan Howard thinks joining societies and clubs is a positive thing for any student.

He said:

“You meet people with similar interests, it keeps you active, allows stress relief, is a good break from studies and can be either high or low commitment based on your free time.

“It made my transition easier and was also good for my CV being president of men’s cricket.

“Sport is great for exercise while studying and I’ve met friends because of mutual interests.”

Jordan is part of many sports team including cricket, rounders and hockey.

He said:

“I think that joining a sports team is good for people to get involved in as they are all student lead, and this means that it gives young people who may not have been involved in sports an opportunity to grow and enhance their leadership skills.”

Biba Chuta

Sports president Biba Chuta is another is also passionate about students joining societies and clubs.

She said:

“For me, University is not only about getting a degree, but all the life experience and personal development that comes with it.

“Joining an extra-curricular activity ensures that get the full experience by meeting new people and sharing similar interests.

“By joining various Sports clubs, I have felt a sense of belonging within the wider sporting body of Team Christ Church.

“It has enabled me to become confident, not only on the pitch but within myself by holding a number of committee positions throughout the years.

“Your sports club becomes your family whereby lifelong friendships are made.”

Nick Beard

Nick recommends getting involved with societies and sports clubs to every student at CCCU and thinks they are the perfect way to meet new people.
