Everything you need to know about Urban Student Life

Concerned about living in a student accommodation in Canterbury? You’re at the right place to find out more about what Urban Student Life offers.

Night life

The great aspect about moving to USL is that the student village is opposite the accommodation where the first years live. There are normally a lot of house parties, so it’s a worthy way of getting to know people.

If you head to town, you have various clubs you can check out like Club Chemistry, Cuban, Steinbeck and Shaw, Venue and even the Student Union Lounge. If you decide to go to Chemistry, there are shuttle buses that will pick you up from Parham road.

Town centre

It’ll take about 20 minutes to walk to town from Urban Life but it’s a chance to explore what’s in between because you might find a spot to hang out.

There’s restaurants, barbers, a very quirky clothing shops and more.

Most of the fast food restaurants are located in the middle of town.

There are also designer shops like Zara, Topshop, and a Fenwick.

 Shopping near me

Next to the accommodation is a huge ASDA which is open 24 hours Monday to Friday.

There’s also a Lidl opposite the road and if you walk past the petrol station, you’ll come across an Iceland, McDonalds, M&S and more shops in the retail park.

Opposite Parham road is a bus stop which can be a quicker and cheaper way of getting to uni and town.
Also, the nearest train station is Canterbury West which can take up to 20 minutes if you’re walking.

Car park

A private car park is available for students only in USL. Once you contact the local team, a designated parking space will be saved for you. A payment will be required.

How far is Uni?

Walking to Canterbury Christ Church uni can take up to 20 minutes. This may sound stressful but it gives you time to feel more awake especially if you have an early start.

Best way to meet people

Although Freshers week is the greatest opportunity to meet people, you could have an advantage because not only do you get to meet Kent and UCA students who live in the accommodation, but you also get a chance to mingle with students in the student village. Especially when it’s time to have a great night.

There’s also different societies you can join and the Student Union hold a lot of events such as their weekly Quiz nights.

My view

Urban Student Life is a very comfortable accommodation.

One of the main things I was worried about was the hygiene level in the kitchen, but their cleaners did a fantastic job and the money spent on rent was definitely worth it.

If you’re still concerned about moving to USL, book a viewing and see how great it is yourself.
