BUCS Weekly sport round up: Big win for Women’s Rugby

This weeks BUCS fixtures kicked off with a bang with the Men’s cricket team racking up some glorious victories.

Sport president Biba Chuta played for Women’s rugby on Wednesday.

Men’s Cricket

The men’s cricket teams impressed again this week with the first team beating both Gravesend by 36 runs and Street End by 82 runs.

The second team also won both their games winning by 10 runs against Canterbury and four wickets separated them and Sturry.

The third team were triumphant over rivals UKC, beating them by two wickets.

Women’s Rugby

The women’s rugby were victorious over Surrey annihilating them by 43-5.

Men’s Hockey

It was an unlucky day for the men’s teams as the first team lost 6-1 against Oxford’s firsts. The Second team also lost to LSE’s seconds by 6-3.

Women’s Hockey

The women’s hockey teams were unfortunate in both their games with the first team losing to to Reading Uni by the narrow scoreline of 3-2.

The Second team were the subject to a 6-0 defeat against rivals UKC.

After the game Laura Buttimer said: “Having just come down from the Prem, we went to Reading knowing they would be a strong opposition but we impressively stepped up our game and were unfortunate to be at the wrong side of the score line.

“As the team bonds and the connections increase my confidence in the team grows weekly and I know we will put up a good fight for the league title again this year.”


The Netball teams had a great week with the first team beating UKC 38-36 and the second team beating Greenwich’s first team 35-32.

The third team drew 19 all against Kings College London.

The fourth team lost 11-13 to University of East London

Men’s Tennis

Men’s tennis had a mix bag this week. The first team beat Hertfordshire 8-4 and the second team lost to Kent by 10-2.

After the match men’s captain Tom Branch said: ” A solid performance from the first team, as a whole I’m pleased with the result.

“Unlucky result for the second team with some really close matches, but an encouraging effort for the boys.”

Women’s Lacrosse

Lacrosse had a terrific week with the women thrashing Hertfordshire 25-7.

Women’s Basketball

The women outclassed UKC winning by 54-42 in this feisty fixture.

Men’s Basketball

Likewise the men also beat Anglia Ruskin away by the outstanding score of 70-40.


CCCU first team won 5-3 against the London School of Economics (LSE).

Men’s Football

The third team fought out a nail-biting 3-3 draw against UCL, but the sides could not be separated after 90 minutes.

The other game saw the second team face the first team in an equally tight affair. It was the second team who pored to have more fight winning 3-2 at Stodmarsh.

Women’s Football

The women had a tough game against UEL after being on  the receiving end of an 8-2 score.
