Peter Pan at The Marlowe is officially the most popular panto in the south east

The Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury is home to the south east’s biggest pantomime.

On January 12 over 100,000 tickets to see Peter Pan at The Marlowe theatre had been sold making it the biggest panto in the South East.

The show which ran until January 14 sold a total of 100,054 tickets an average of 1,076 per a performance. Over the 92 shows The Marlowe had a capacity of 108,246 meaning that it was more than 92% full at each performance (on average).

Pantomime producer, Paul Hendy said everyone was “over the moon” with the achievement, adding: “Especially as Canterbury only has a population of 46,000.

“We would like to thank the people of Kent and beyond for helping to make The Marlowe pantomime one of the biggest and best in the country.

“We’d also like to thank the cast, crew and wonderful staff at the theatre – it really has been a great team effort.”

Peter Pan, which has been described by the British theatre guide as ‘one of the best pantomimes in the country’ broke The Marlowe’s previous record of 95,685 from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs in 2015/16.
