Reports of missing and stolen belongings falls to a new low

A recent FOI request revealed that over the last two years the number of missing possessions reported to the university has dropped considerably.

Since the start of 2018 there were records of 10 items being either swiped or misplaced.

Augustine House was seen to have 3 reports and this number has been steadily declining since 2015, when it had 10 disappearances.

The locations where you are most likely to lose or have something taken from you are Maxwell Davis, Laud and Augustine House.

Numbers have been slowly declining since 2016, however, across the entire Canterbury campus with 27 reports in that year, 18 in 2017 and only 10 so far this year.

It was also found that there is always at least one security guard in Augustine house during opening hours with 17 internal cameras.

CCTV is checked ‘on an ad-hoc basis or as required’ therefore security is unlikely to find someone in the moment taking another student’s possessions, until the incident is reported and reviewed.

If you have experienced any of your belongings go missing, or you suspect them to have been taken, please ensure that you contact the nearest security help-desk as soon as you can. Or contact the i-zone on 01227 922222.
