Warning to motorists as road temperatures drop below freezing point

Motorists in Kent have been warned to watch out for icy roads as temperatures are set to fall below freezing point tonight, according to Kent County Council.

The council announced they will be deploying the gritters from 10pm tonight to treat the main roads in the county.

KCC Highways also posted a warning on social media, saying road users should “watch out for icy patches/stretches, particularly on the untreated roads overnight and into tomorrow morning.

“[Road users] should drive cautiously and be deliberate and slower in their actions and not be surprised by ‘sudden’ traffic light changes or other vehicles braking.

This is the warning KCC Highways put out on twitter today.

“Harsh braking, harsh steering, or harsh acceleration are key precursors to skidding on ice and snow.”
