Unified have won four journalism awards at the 2018 SPA Regional Conference.
Student Publication Association (SPA) held a regional conference today in Brighton. Student publications and journalists from across the South East gathered at the conference and award ceremony.
Unified took home four out of the five journalism awards at the event.
Unified won ‘Best Publication’ in the South East – which is the highest award given by SPARC.
Maddy Goacher, features editor for Unified, also took home the ‘Best Community Focus’ award on her work on sexual harassment in Canterbury’s hospitality industry.
Overwhelmed, Unified’s editor-in-chief did not expect to take home multiple awards.
Claisse said: “It’s an absolute honour to have the team’s hard work recognised at a regional level.
“To think that we’ve been awarded as the best student publication in the South East – it’s something that I’m very proud of.”
Earlier this year, Unified won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the SPA National Awards 2018.
The editor-in-chief added: “To think that Unified only launched a couple of years ago, it’s been fulfilling to see that we’re really making a mark within the student journalism world.”
The conference was held today (November 17) at University of Sussex in Brighton.
