CCCU’s new arts building was due to open back in semester 1 this year, after a disappointing delay – what’s happening now?
As reported on Unified earlier this year, the opening date of the building was not met due to ‘technical issues’. However, the university hoped that it will be ready in time for the semester 2 (January 2019).
A spokesperson for the university can confirm that tours for students and staff will begin after Christmas.
The date for the formal opening of the new £15m building is yet to be confirmed.
Accurate at the time of writing, the building which is part of a £150 million development plot, appears far from finished from the exterior.
A spokesperson for the university said: “The keys as such don’t actually get ‘handed over’ until the building has been fully signed off/reached practical completion which won’t be until the New Year.
“We are working closely with the contractor who has allowed us early access to the building to start to bring in furniture, fixings and equipment, in readiness for the start of Semester 2.
“We are looking forward to offering tours to students and staff in January.”
Unified understands that CCCU plans for the new building to be up and running by semester 2 (Jan 21 onwards).
