Canterbury Varsity 2019 Round Up: Day 1 – Cricket

An intense start of the varsity week with C4 cricket giving it all. If you missed today and need to catch up – don’t worry, we’ve got a round up of everything that happened today.

1st Game: Cricket Men’s 2’s

A strong start for men’s 2’s with the CCCU crowd showing full support. UKC batting first.


Then it was our turn to bat, needing 123 to win.

Harry Wise unfortunate run out but boys were still pushing through.

RESULT: Cricket Men’s 2’s LOSS

Sadly we were 24 short off a win but still incredibly proud of how the boys played.

Captain Interview: James Roche from Men’s Cricket 2’s

2nd Game: Women’s Cricket

After men’s 2’s, the women’s team came straight after and did not disappoint. Crowd grew bigger and bigger in full support of our girls!

UKC are batting first again. Our very own sports president Chloe Woolaway pleased the crowd with great bowls.

A very strong start from our ladies. Only a few minutes in and a big LBW was turned down by the umpire – crowd not too pleased. Scores were looking good for C4.

Spectators notice that it could be a really tight game with score: 91 off 8.

Brilliant play by Captain Annabelle who reached retirement score of 25. Well done! Game is looking very right.

A very unlucky loss for the ladies, a close game! Well done ladies! It was an exciting game with lots of reactions from the crowd.

CCCU and UKC crowd both rivalling to be the loudest – we didn’t expect anything less!

3rd Game: Men’s Cricket 1’s

Let’s cut to the chase.

Men’s cricket 1’s absolutely walked through that game and smashed it from start till finish!

Here are some highlights:

Is it even a varsity match if we don’t sing ‘C4 Till We Die’?

A BOOMER FROM THE WHEELER! Crowd went wild for this one. What impressive play from our very own Ali Barker!

Another retirement score reached – just fire after fire for this team.
