We are currently in the middle of the Student Voice Election period at Canterbury Christ Church University.
From the 25th of October to the 1st of November, nominations for positions on the Union Council, Faculty Reps and School Reps open. Voting then opens from the 1st to the 4th of November.
By-Elections in sports and societies are also taking place.
These positions are vital to the Student’s Voice and without them students will fail to have fair representation on the many committees and boards run by the university.Kriss Bailey, Student Voice Coordinator at CCSU
The Students’ Union released a statement on their website last week encouraging students to get involved so their voices can be heard:
Students’ Unions are amongst the most democratic membership organisations in the UK. Do you feel the union should… Do something, lobby for something, take a stance on something, support something?
Now is the moment to make those changes, challenge the status quo and help focus the Union to create a better future for students.CCSU
Nominations are open to join the Union Council, where elected members can help enforce change across the university.
Students can also noiminate themselves to become a Course Rep where they represent the students of their course and help make positive changes to improve the running of their course.
Nominations are open for Faculty Reps. This role entails attending university-level meetings to represent student views.
Finally, Clubs and Societies By-Elections are open. This is where a group of students are fairly appointed as leaders of their sports club or society. The successful candidates will help run the club/society for the academic year.
Your education is in your hands. We strongly encourage and support Student Representation and urge you to take a stand.CCSU
