Strictly 2021: Week Five – Scores high, and a shock near-goodbye!

This week was fire! We had some of the best dances this series, as well as an unexpected dance-off pairing. Noticeably absent were Judi and Graziano, as Judi tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week.

So, how did everyone do this week?

Dan & Nadiya – Viennese Waltz (Score: 28/40, +2 since last week)

Dancing an incredibly sweet Viennese Waltz to Billy Joel’s ‘She’s Always a Woman’, he and Nadiya received a 28 – a 7 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Adam & Katya – Samba (Score: 29/40, -3 since last week)

Dancing a denim-clad Samba to George Michael’s ‘Faith’, he and Katya scored 29 – a 7 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Sara & Aljaž – Rumba (Score: 25/40, -11 since last week)

Dancing to Shania Twain’s ‘You’re Still the One’, she and Aljaž scored 25 – a 4 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton. (I don’t know what Craig was watching, I thought it was beautiful!)

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Tom & Amy – Salsa (Score: 34/40, +5 since last week)

In a bouncy routine to his friend Harry Styles’s ‘Watermelon Sugar’, they scored 34 – an 8 from Craig, a 9 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Tilly & Nikita – Foxtrot (Score: 36/40, +4 since last week)

Dancing a romantic routine to her favourite song, One Direction’s ‘Little Things’, she and Nikita earned a major 36 from the judges – a 9 from Craig, a 9 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

AJ & Kai – Argentine Tango (Score: 35/40, +7 since last week)

Dancing to Stevie Nicks’s ‘Edge of Seventeen’, she and Kai earned a 35 from the judges – an 8 from Craig, an 8 from Motsi, a *10* from Shirley and a 9 from Anton.

I’ll be honest – I expected all four 10 paddles to come out for this one, it was amazing! And that near-kiss at the end… FIRE.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Ugo and Oti – Rumba (Score: 20/40, -11 since Week Three)

In a saucy yet classy routine to Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave the Door Open’, he and Oti scored 20 from the judges – a 3 from Craig, a 6 from Motsi, a 5 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton. The performance was good, but the Rumba has always proved to be a difficult dance to master, especially for male amateurs.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.

John & Johannes – Charleston (Score: 38/40, +9 since last week)

In an insane effort dancing to Édith Piaf’s ‘Milord’, he and Johannes received an amazing 38 from the judges – a 9 from Craig, a 9 from Motsi, a *10* from Shirley, and a *10* from Anton. This routine was impeccably timed, and characterised at practically a pro level. Wow!

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Rose & Giovanni – Viennese Waltz (Score: 37/40, +10 since last week)

Proving once again she’s a ballroom girl, she and Giovanni earned a huge 37 dancing to Alicia Keys’s ‘Fallin” – a 9 from Craig, a *10* from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton. Her first 10 of the series!

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Rhys & Nancy – American Smooth (Score: 32/40, +1 since last week)

His and Nancy’s fabulous routine to Michael Bublé’s ‘I’ve Got the World on a String’ scored 32 from the judges – an 8 from Craig, an 8 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

How did the leaderboard look?

John and Johannes took first place with a whopping 38 (though it was close at the top), and Ugo and Oti were at the bottom with 20.

Who was in the Dance Off, and how did it go?

This week, Ugo and Oti had to face Rhys and Nancy in a shock dance-off.
Once again, only three votes were needed as the first three judges agreed.

Craig, Motsi and Anton all decided to save Rhys and Nancy, which meant that Ugo and Oti were eliminated. Shirley also said that if she could have voted, she would have done the same.

Any news before Week Six?

Judi and Graziano will return for Week Six. We’ve missed them this week!
