Strictly 2021: Week Three – It’s Movie Week, and the 10 paddles are out!

Week Three kicked the competition up a gear! Movie Week provided extra entertainment – with wigs, body paint, and some iconic music to dance to.

McFly fans were delighted to see Tom and Amy return to the floor this week. They were allowed to rejoin the competition as they’d only missed one week, which they had to sit out after catching COVID-19.

This meant that there were still 14 couples present, the same as last week.

So, how did everyone do this week?

Judi & Graziano – Charleston (Score: 24/40, -1 since last week)

Dancing to ‘When You’re Good to Mama’ from Chicago, she and Graziano scored 24 from the judges – a 4 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Dan & Nadiya – Foxtrot (Score: 21/40, -5 since last week)

Dancing a sweet routine to ‘Once Upon a Dream’ from Sleeping Beauty, he and Nadiya scored 21 from the judges – a 3 from Craig, a 5 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Sara & Aljaž – Samba (Score: 34/40, +17 since last week)

Sara was worried about going back to Latin this week, especially doing the dreaded Samba, but she had no reason to be concerned for her scores!
Dancing to ‘Best Years of Our Lives’ from Shrek, her Latin improvement from Week One was remarkable. She and Aljaž received a respectable 28 – a 7 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

AJ & Kai – American Smooth (Score: 35/40, +4 since last week)

Dancing to ‘I Have Nothing’ from The Bodyguard, she and Kai received 35 from the judges – an 8 from Craig, a 9 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton. As ever, AJ put her all into the routine and the storytelling, and it was beautiful.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Robert & Dianne – Quickstep (Score: 25/40, -2 since last week)

Dressed as Kermit and Miss Piggy, this routine will be remembered as one of the most iconic this season, costume-wise. Dancing to ‘The Muppet Show Theme’ from The Muppets, he and Dianne received 25 from the judges – a 6 from Craig, a 6 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Greg & Karen – Paso Doble (Score: 26/40, +3 since last week)

Dancing to the classic ‘James Bond Theme’ (first used in Dr. No and in every other Bond film since), Greg and his Bond girl Karen scored 26 from the judges – a 6 from Craig, a 6 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton.

It was a good attempt, but viewers thought Karen was doing all the work – she did kill it, so if Greg matched her energy it would have been amazing.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Tilly & Nikita – Jive (Score: 27/40, -7 since last week)

In the cutest Hairspray routine you ever did see, she and Nikita danced to ‘Nicest Kids in Town’. They scored 27 from the judges – an 6 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 7 from Shirley and a 7 from Anton.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rose & Giovanni – Foxtrot (Score: 36/40, +10 since last week)

In the most beautiful routine that didn’t need lyrics to convey emotion, she and Giovanni danced to ‘Rose’s Theme’ from Titanic. They earned 36 from the judges – a 9 from Craig, a 9 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton. Craig said (and signed) his trademark high-praise line: “Ah-ma-zing!”

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Ugo & Oti – Couple’s Choice (Score: 31/40, +6 since last week)

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Tom & Amy – Jive (Score: 32/40, +11 since Week One)

His and Amy’s routine to ‘Johnny B. Goode’ from Back to the Future scored 32 – an 8 from Craig, an 8 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton. This was particularly cute because this film inspired McFly’s name! Also particularly impressive, as he and Amy only had three days to train in person – the rest was on FaceTime as they were still isolating separately.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Adam & Katya – Rumba (Score: 20/40, +1 since last week)

Dancing to ‘I See You’ from Avatar, he and Katya scored 20 – a 4 from Craig, a 5 from Motsi, a 5 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton. While this was the lowest score of the night, it’s not to be sniffed at considering how challenging the Rumba is for amateur dancers.

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Katie & Gorka – American Smooth (Score: 24/40, +3 since last week)

Dressed as the Cruella to Gorka’s Pongo, they danced to ‘Cruella De Vil’ from Cruella. She and Gorka got a 21 from the judges – a 5 from Craig, a 7 from Motsi, a 6 from Shirley and a 6 from Anton.

John & Johannes – Paso Doble (Score: 39/40, +8 since last week)

Charlotte’s rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

How did the leaderboard look?

There were many high scorers this week, so it was close at the top, but John and Johannes clinched the top spot with their impressive 39. At the other end, Adam and Katya were at the bottom with 20.

Who was in the Dance Off, and how did it go?

This week, Judi and Graziano faced Katie and Gorka, who found themselves in the bottom two for the second week running. The judges said that it was a close call as they both did well. Once again, it was a split vote which came down to Shirley’s casting vote.

Craig and Motsi both chose Judi and Graziano, while Anton voted for Katie and Gorka.
Shirley chose to save Judi and Graziano, meaning that Katie and Gorka were eliminated.

Any news before Week Four?
