In an unfortunate turn of events, there are now only 11 couples set to compete this week, as TWO pairs will not dance on Saturday night.
Robert and Dianne
Sadly, comedian and actor Robert Webb and his partner Dianne Buswell have withdrawn from the series.
Robert had emergency surgery for a heart problem in 2019, and sought medical advice after feeling concerning symptoms. After his consultation, he decided he should not continue with such a strenuous activity.
In the statement featured in BBC Strictly’s Instagram post (above), Robert said: “I’m extremely sorry to have to announce that I’m withdrawing from Strictly Come Dancing due to ill health. Two years ago I had open heart surgery and although I believed I was fit enough to take on Strictly and its demanding schedule, it became clear that I had bitten off way more than I could chew for this stage in my recovery.”
It was always going to be a difficult mountain to climb (for one thing it’s made of glitter so it’s very skiddy)Robert
He also thanked his partner, saying “I’m proud of the three dances that Dianne Buswell and I managed to perform and deeply regret having to let her down like this,” adding, “It’s a measure of Dianne’s professionalism and kindness that I was able to get as far as I did.”
Dianne said: “I know Robert had a lot more to give to the competition, but his health of course comes first and I wish him a speedy recovery. I feel lucky to have danced with him and to call him a friend.“
In his own Instagram post, Robert said: “I’m going to be just fine once I’ve had a good rest”. He has limited the comments on his upload, but those written sent him positive messages and well wishes.
Co-host Claudia Winkleman commented: “We’ll miss you so much. Sending all love xxxx”
New professional dancer Jovita Przystal wrote: “Robert you were joy to watch !!!! Wishing you all the best and sending lots of love ??“
The BBC Strictly Twitter account posted Robert and Dianne’s highlight reel, which is usually shown upon elimination. Watch below to see their best bits:
Ugo and Oti
Also not participating this week are rugby player and pundit Ugo Monye and his partner Oti Mabuse.
In a series of tweets, Ugo explained how an ongoing issue with his back has flared up this week. This has forced him to miss out on Week Four of the show, but he will most likely return for Week Five after resting up.
The Week Four results show
Although the number of couples is two lower than it should be this week, Strictly have confirmed that the results show WILL go ahead as usual, and someone will still be eliminated.
Viewers have voiced negative opinions regarding this decision. Many believe the show should purely be for entertainment and that no one should leave, noting in particular that an elimination on Sunday will mean that there would only be three finalists.
