Strictly 2021: Week Nine – Musicals Week!

We had less than half the celebrities left standing this week! Seven couples fought to stay in the competition in this musical-themed weekend, full of incredible costumes and equally iconic songs. Keep reading for the rundown!

So, how did everyone do this week?

AJ & Kai – Waltz (Score: 38/40, +10 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Edelweiss’ from The Sound of Music, she and Kai scored 38 – a 9 from Cynthia, a *10* from Motsi, a *10* from Shirley and a 9 from Anton.

Rhys & Nancy – Jive (Score: 32/40, -8 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Footloose’ from Footloose, he and Nancy scored 32 – an 8 from Cynthia, an 8 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton.

Tom & Amy – Couple’s Choice (Score: 31/40, +1 since last week)

Dancing to ‘On My Own’ from Les Misérables, he and Amy scored 31 from the judges – a 7 from Cynthia, an 8 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton.

This gorgeous routine was dedicated to Tom’s sister, actress Carrie Hope Fletcher, who played Éponine in the West End production from 2013 to 2016. ‘On My Own’ is Éponine’s solo song in the musical.

The judges felt he didn’t show enough emotion – and should have actually cried – but everyone else thought he showed plenty of feeling and that he was undermarked.

Rose & Giovanni – Quickstep (Score: 37/40, -2 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Love Is an Open Door’ from Frozen, she and Giovanni scored 37 from the judges – a *10* from Cynthia, a 9 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and a 9 from Anton.

John & Johannes – Viennese Waltz (Score: 32/40, -6 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’ from Mary Poppins, he and Johannes scored 32 – an 8 from Cynthia, an 8 from Motsi, an 8 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton.

Tilly & Nikita – Couple’s Choice (Score: 40/40, +11 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Revolting Children’ from Matilda the Musical, she and Nikita scored a perfect 40 from the judges – a *10* from Cynthia, a *10* from Motsi, a *10* from Shirley and a *10* from Anton.

Dan & Nadiya – Charleston (Score: 31/40, +2 since last week)

Dancing to ‘Good Morning’ from Singin’ in the Rain, he and Nadiya scored 31 from the judges – a 7 from Cynthia, a 7 from Motsi, a 9 from Shirley and an 8 from Anton. He broke the 30 barrier like he wanted!

How did the leaderboard look?

Tilly and Nikita topped the leaderboard with a perfect 40, and Tom and Amy and Dan and Nadiya finished joint last, having both scored 31. A high scoring week!

Who was in the Dance Off, and how did it go?

This week, Rhys and Nancy were up against Tom and Amy.

Cynthia, Motsi and Anton all voted for Rhys and Nancy, which meant that Tom and Amy had to leave.

However, Shirley said that she would have saved Tom and Amy if she could have voted.

Any news before Week Ten?

All being well, Craig will be back next week, as the remaining couples fight for their place in the quarter-finals.

What next?

The next week of Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 6:55pm on BBC One, with the results show at 7:20pm on Sunday.
Strictly – It Takes Two (hosted by Janette Manrara and Rylan) airs from Monday to Friday at 6:30pm.
