Top FREE Festive Events happening this coming season

Christmas adverts have hit the TV screens and that means one thing… it’s time to start planning your festive celebrations! We know that a student budget always gets tighter around this festive period, so here is a list of FREE events that you and your friends can go to.

Westwood Cross (22 Nov, 4-5:30pm)

This year, Westwood Cross are shaking up their usual annual Christmas light event by hosting a Christmas procession.

There will be festive entertainment from 4pm by the giant teddy bear (near the bus huts) before the procession takes off at 4:30pm, where a marching band will be leading Santa and his helpers up to the bauble (near Primark).

At 5:30pm, Santa will open the brand new ‘Little Bears Cove’ play area.

Broadstairs Christmas Market (9-12 Dec)

Broadstairs Christmas Market is set to return to Victoria Parade. The market will feature a large range of Christmas gifts and decorations, along with lots of festive food and drink.

There will be a heated marquee, stage, children’s rides, food court and winter bar on Victoria Gardens, suitable for all ages.

The Christmas market is free to enter, but a range of ticketed events will also be taking place in the heated marquee.

The opening times are:
Thurs: 12pm – 6pm
Fri: 9am – 6pm
Sat: 9am – 7pm
Sun: 10am – 5pm

Canterbury Christmas Market (12 Nov – 24 Dec)

This year’s Christmas Market in Canterbury returned on Friday, November 12th, before the city’s Christmas lights were lit. It will stay in the city until 4pm on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas Market can be located in Whitefriars Shopping Centre and St George’s Street.

Rows of festive huts have been built, full of Christmas gifts and a wide range of delicious seasonal food and drinks.

The opening times are:
Mon to Fri- 10am to 6pm
Sat- 9am to 6pm
Sun- 10am to 4pm

Ramsgate Christmas Fun Day (28 Nov, 12-5pm)

This year, Ramsgate will be hosting a Family Fun Day. To avoid crowds, there will be no official countdown for the ‘turning on’ of the Christmas lights, but there will be entertainment all around the high street.

The Fun Day will see the return of The Land Train, as well as the Ramsgate Christmas Fair and the Ramsgate Handmade and Vintage Fair, with Christmas treats, gifts and decorations all made locally. 

Westgate Christmas Fun Day (Dec 5, 11am-5pm)

Just like Ramsgate, Westgate will be hosting a Family Fun Day.

There will be festive entertainment with stalls, festive food and drink, a funfair, and even a visit from Santa on Station Road.

Ramsgate FC’s Winter Wonderland (19-27 Dec)

Ramsgate FC will be hosting a Winter Wonderland, with Santa’s Grotto, an ice skating rink, live music, inflatables, festive food and drink and more!

Entry is free, but it costs £5 each for ice skating and Santa’s Grotto (Bookings opened 12th November)
