Freshers Fayre to kick off new year at CCCU

Christ Church Students’ Union (CCSU) is set to welcome new students with the annual Freshers Fayre.

It’s a chance for students to interact with the wider Christ Church community and see what societies are on offer for the year ahead.

President of Engagement and Sports, Max Elvin, said the Freshers Fair will be a great starting point for those looking to get involved in the coming year.

“Freshers’ Fayre is going to be a great event for all new and returning students to get involved with,” said Elvin.

“It’s a chance to get together, meet new people and discover what the Student Union offers.”

This year’s event will take place at the Christ Church Sports Centre, with the access hour from 10 am – 11 am and the full event from 11 am – 3 pm.

With over 80 societies at CCCU, this is the first opportunity that new students will have to explore everything available to them from sports teams to other societies.

Vice-President of Snowsports, Heidi Baker spoke about the positives of joining a society.

Joining a society is the best way to make friends, you can meet people with similar interests to you and have fun every week at socials,” said Baker.

“From personal experience joining a society has been the best part of my uni journey, I’ve made friends for life and made memories to last forever.”

The Fresher Fayre was originally supposed to take place on campus, so students could get their first look at the recently opened CCSU hub in the Anselm building.

Due to weather conditions, the Freshers Fayre has had to move but there’s still a lot of excitement around the student union’s (SU) move back to campus.

SU President, Alice Lundy said the new location will be ideal for students.

“I’m really excited to have the SU back on campus for the 23/24 academic year and beyond. Having a non-commercial student social space on campus will allow students to have a place to relax and unwind between lectures,” said Lundy.

“We’d also like to thank the previous generation of sabbatical officers for making this a possibility.”

The Freshers Fayre is just the first in a long line of events CCSU will look to host across the coming year.
