Will this years Christmas light switch-on be the best Canterbury has seen yet?

Find out what’s happening tonight during the Christmas light switch on in St George’s Street in Canterbury.

The Canterbury Christmas light switch-on will mark the start of the festive season and late night shopping in the city.

The annual switch-on will include guest presenters from Heart FM, local musicians and entertainment, and a guest appearance from the cast of The Marlowe Theatre pantomime, Dick Whittington. The Lord Mayor will also be making an appearance at 18:30, in preparation for the lights switch-on at 18:45.

This year’s light displays are being funded by the Canterbury Business Improvement District who are ensuring they favour and enhance the historic city.

This year they have spent an additional £20,000 to make sure it will be the best Christmas Light switch-on so far. Bob Jones Chief Executive of Canterbury Business Improvement District expresses his excitement for the evening; “With additional displays in St Dunstans and Castle Street, the lights have been praised as the best the city has ever had. It has been well publicised so we can expect a large crowd.”

The BID is investing heavily in the safety and crowd management due to around 4,000 people attending the event last year.

The event will be held on November 17th between 5pm and 7pm at the junction of Long Market and St George’s Street.
