Blog: Why I Copped-a-Fell for CoppaFeel!

Hi, everyone! So, by now, there’s no way that you haven’t heard of the CCCU Uni Boob Team, and if you haven’t- where on earth have you been? We are the on-campus representatives of the breast cancer awareness charity, CoppaFeel!

My name is Elise and I am the Uni Boob Team Leader, and it’s safe to say that working for CoppaFeel! has quickly become my passion.

Why I did it:

As you may be aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month which means the folk at CoppaFeel! and breast cancer charities across the country become very busy people: including us!

We were set the target of raising £500 for CoppaFeel!, and what better way to achieve this than by asking for sponsors to climb up a fell in the Lake District dressed as a giant boob? Chuck in my three-legged dog, Honey, and the whole thing becomes pretty irresistible.

We set off on what has affectionately become known as our “5-Legged Adventure” during Reading Week, on the one beautiful day of what was otherwise a very rainy week.

With my Mum, Dad and Uncle in tow, I set off up Orrest Head (donning the boob as a giant backpack) with Honey by my side. I can safely say that what is supposed to be a fairly easy walk was made somewhat harder thanks to the recent wet weather, which kindly provided the addition of treacherously slippery rocks, wet leaves and mud slides, not to mention having to supervise a tripod dog.

As you can imagine, we received some pretty dubious looks from passers-by but, as always in the Lake District, the view from the top made it entirely worth it.

There’s no satisfaction quite like conquering a challenging walk, and it’s made all the more rewarding when doing it to raise money for such an incredible cause.

Our work

Thanks to the sponsorship I received, as well as all the CCCU UBT’s fundraising triumphs so far this year like our Bake Sale, we have managed to reach our £500 target. But don’t be fooled in thinking that we’ll stop there, because we certainly won’t!

I knew as soon as I attended Boob School during the summer that it was my intention to fully smash any target that was given to us, so we will keep on going, and in doing so we will be helping CoppaFeel! to continue its lifesaving work.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my 5-Legged Adventure. I couldn’t be more proud of my little dog, Honey, and of the CCCU UBT for achieving all we have so far. But we couldn’t do it without the generosity of people like YOU, so please keep updated with your Uni Boob Team, as we always have loads of fun events in the works to raise as much as we possibly can for CoppaFeel!
